ABOUT US

The Barriere & Area Chamber of Commerce was registered on November 4th, 1948 as the Lower North Thompson Board of Trade. It was later renamed in 1966.  In the early 90's "Barry the Bear" was developed as the official logo.  After the wildfire of 2003, the North Thompson Economical Development hired Lorne Richardson as a manager to help get Barriere on the map.
Mr. Richards worked with Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association (TOTA) to help promote Barriere & Area. The new office and Information/Tourism booth was opened at Conner Road, and he worked with the businesses to help them get the promotion needed by creating a website and vacation guides.

Later on the Lower North Thompson Tourism Society (LNTTS)  was formed, now separating the tourism from the Chamber. The Chamber still continues to co-manage the Info booth with the LNTTS and the District of Barriere.

The Chamber today has over 70 members to date. We represent all sectors of business in the community. Our goal is to ensure that the town of Barriere and surrounding area has a growing successful economy. We sponsor the Community Christmas Dinner, Stuff the Cruiser &  hosted the All Candidates Forum.

As the Voice of business the Chambers mission is achieved through the hard work and dedication of our members, Board of Directors and Staff, who work in partnership with the community.
